"Reading makes a full man" is a saying we all have heard at least once in our life. That being said, most people do not tend to pick up a book due to various reasons. Among students studying STEM subjects, the most common complaint is that they don’t have time to read for recreation.
In recent times I have discovered the wonders of audiobooks. This form of reading isn’t novel anymore, yet most have not given it a try.
So here are a few reasons why audiobooks are the perfect way to read more.
We all have mundane tasks in our lives that do not require mental effort, be it cleaning, chores, or exercising, listening to an audiobook is the perfect way to cure the monotony of those tasks. Most of us have long commutes to college which is an ideal time to plug in those earphones and listen to a book. It is the perfect way to enjoy a long ride. Audiobooks unlike physical books are easier to carry; you could have your very own library just on your phone. There are a huge variety of audiobooks that are available now compared to a few years ago when audiobooks were a rarity. Generally, you could find an audiobook for any book you want to read. Audiobooks do not strain your eyes as reading a physical book or eBook would. Often audiobooks are found cheaper than buying physical copies of a book.
Ever had someone read you a story when you were a kid? That is exactly how it feels when you find an audiobook that you like; it is like having someone tell you a story. A lot of the time, impairments like dyslexia hinder one’s ability to read. Audiobooks are a great alternative allowing inclusivity for everyone. Other benefits are increasing reading accuracy, reading speed, teaching pronunciation, and improving fluency. One final benefit to audiobooks is knowing exactly how much time I would have to spend on reading one book.
If you are already a fan of audiobooks I compliment you and if you have never tried an audiobook before, I hope this convinces you to give it a try.
Happy listening!
