Blood Donation Campaign 2021

The annual blood donation campaign organised by the Community Service Avenue of the Spectrum Students’ Society, in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Spectrum Institute of Science & Technology, took place on February 18th, 2021 at the National Blood Bank, Colombo 05. The student body of SIST, their family, friends, and many from outside, volunteered in participating in a service that saves lives. This project aims to spread awareness and motivate the general public to donate blood.

Elders Home Visit 2021

On April 4th, 2021, the annual Elder’s Home visit was held at the Sujatha Elder’s Home, Maharagama, in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Spectrum Institute of Science & Technology. Considering the safety of the elders, there was a limit of participants who were responsible for handing over the donations to the elder’s home, however, many students and staff from SIST were gracious enough to donate items for the senior citizens to meet their basic needs, especially during the prevailing situation in the country. Many everyday items that we take for granted were donated to their home on that day.

Reach Beyond Sports Meet for Kids 2019

The reach beyond sports meet event for an extra special and unique set of children was organised on October 23rd, 2019 at the Spectrum premises. Volunteers both from Reach Beyond and SIST enjoyed a glorious day filled with a range of games, fundraisers, and fun activities, all leading up to the event ending on a successful note.

Annual Cancer Hospital Visit (2018)

The annual cancer hospital visit is the biggest charity project organized by the Community Service Wing. The aim of this project is to make the children battling cancer happy and give them happy moments to look forward to. This is done by entertaining the kids with songs and drama and presenting the kids with gifts. This project strives to develop team spirit among the students.

Ecstasy of Christmas 2020

The first online Christmas carol event of Spectrum Institute of Science & Technology, ‘Ecstasy of Christmas’ was held on December 27th, 2020 via google meet. The joy of Christmas was celebrated with the students and staff of SIST in the comfort of their homes, amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sparque

Sparque is the annual extravagant talent show organized by the Performing arts wing of SIST. This event is the main fundraiser to all charity events held by the Student’s Society. The concert is held at Tower hall Maradana. It is a huge success whenever held.

Annual Christmas Party (2019)

‘Breath of Heaven’, a Carol Service and Christmas Gathering took place on December 20th, 2019. The evening was filled with carols, games, entertainment and a Secret Santa exchanging event. The spirit of Christmas was shared among the students and faculty of SIST on a joyful note.

Chord Battle 2021

In commemoration of the 20th Anniversary celebrations of Spectrum Institute of Science & Technology, the Performing Arts Avenue presented, ‘Chord Battle’, an all-island social media competition in singing and instrument playing, where talented individuals had the opportunity to unleash their talent with a rewarding cash prize. This commenced from February 4th, 2021 up till March 6th, 2021.

Bookmark Sale 2020

A fundraising event was held by the Performing Arts Avenue where bookmarks were sold at different destinations around Colombo on September 20th, 2020. Bookmarks of five different designs were sold to the general public.

Green Army

We Mean Green Webinar 2021

The Green Army Avenue of the SSS organised an open online webinar about climate change and its effects on mankind, ‘WE MEAN GREEN’ on February 13th, 2021, in commemoration of the 20th Anniversary Celebrations of Spectrum Institute of Science & Technology. Along with the webinar was an online competition where participants of the session were welcomed to write a project proposal to act against climate change. The best proposal was awarded a cash prize.

Congratulations to Urupitiya Gamage Thulani Thosalya from G/ Sanghamiththa Balika Vidyalaya, Galle for being the winner of the online project proposal competition on climate change!

20th Anniversary Celebrations - Tree Planting Ceremony

A tree-planting ceremony, organised by the Green Army Avenue of the SSS, was a prominent event that took place at the 20th Anniversary Celebrations of Spectrum Institute of Science & Technology on February 11th, 2021. It symbolizes the putting down of roots, longevity, and strengths in the twenty outstanding years of SIST.

Knight of the Square Table – Inter-house Chess Tournament 2021

The SIST annual inter-house chess tournament was organised by the Sports Avenue of the SSS, and conducted on lichess.org, on January 16th, 2021. SIST students competed in a chess tournament like no other for the first time, virtually. Students and staff also could catch every game in action as spectators.

Healthy Pandemic Webinar 2021

In commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of Spectrum Institute of Science & Technology, the Sports Avenue of the SSS presented an open online webinar, ‘Healthy Pandemic’ on February 14th, 2021. The webinar was conducted by guest speaker, Mr Ashen Pieris where he spoke about the importance of the role of nutrition during the Covid-19 pandemic.

SMASH – Inter-house Badminton tournament (2019)

One of the biggest events organized by the Sports wing of the Spectrum Students’ Society was the inter-house badminton tournament. With the massive participation of over 60 students and also the alumni of SIST and faculty, the event was an achievement beyond success.

It was one of a kind gaming experience, with several game titles being held, SSS E-sports Championships was loved and enjoyed by gamers who were present.

My PCR (My Pandemic Camera Reel) Photography Competition

In commemoration of the 20th Anniversary celebrations of Spectrum Institute of Science & Technology, the VCDM Avenue of the SSS presented a social media photography competition, ‘MY PCR’ on June 7th, 2021. Photographers, island-wide, participated in showcasing their talent in the form of photos representing the lockdown state of the country. Viewers flooded their submitted photos with likes and comments on Facebook, of which one winner was chosen who had the most amount of reactions. A cash prize was awarded.

The VCDM Avenue contributes greatly in helping the other avenues design their project posters. They work hand in hand in providing the service of photography, videography and digital media design for SIST.
