The 1990s was one of the best decades to grow up in. Everything was great during that time. This era yielded some of the greatest movies like “The Lion King”, TV shows like “Friends”, songs like “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston and fashion trends. There’s no denying that the 90s had some of the best fashion trends. Here are some of the 1990’s fashion trends that made a comeback.
Leather Jackets
Maybe they are a bit expensive but does that really matter? I mean, they can last a few decades and you can wear them with literally anything!
Short Bob with Bangs
Almost all of the kids who grew up in the 1990s had this hairstyle. And now it’s back! Taylor Swift is rocking this 90s hairstyle!
Brown Lipstick
This 90s grungy and gothic trend has made a comeback thanks to the Kardashians. Now it is suitable for even young girls to wear brown lipstick unlike in the past when it was considered dark and gothic.
Matching Plaid Sets
Remember Cher’s yellow plaid blazer and skirt from the 1995 movie “Clueless”? This set has made a comeback in 2018. Versace’s look (on the right) is pretty similar to Cher’s outfit (on the left) doesn’t it? Michael Kors and Sara Battaglia also featured styles inspired by this outfit.
Fishnet Tights
Fishnet tights were extremely popular during the grunge-era. These were later adopted by 90s women. Now they are worn as socks under ripped jeans and they are also worn with high heels. You can also wear them with skirts or shorts.
Chokers
These accessories have been around for thousands of years and became extremely popular in the 19th century. Those of you who have grown up in the 90s may have seen or worn those plastic tattoo chokers. They haven’t changed at all have they? They are still popular today as they were in the 90s.
Crop Tops
Crop tops came into fashion in the 1940s and gained widespread acceptance in the 1970s. This trend came back in the 1990s in the form of a bustier which revealed the midriff and was worn under a shirt or blazer. By the mid-1990s, the crop top emerged as a cropped, tight-fitting T-shirt. Singers such as Britney Spears, Shania Twain and Christina Aguilera popularized the crop top in the 1990s. With time, crops tops got better and better. You can wear them with shorts, jeans or even tracks. Worried about showing off too much of your skin? You can pair them up with high-waist jeans, pants or skirts.
Flannel Shirts
Flannel shirts have made a comeback and are here to stay! You can wear them as a normal shirt, pair them up with crop tops or even tie them around the waist.
Denim Overalls
This trend was a hit in the 90s and now it is one of the hottest trends. Denim overalls made an appearance in most of the Mary-Kate and Ashley movies. Both tighter overalls and the baggy ones which you wore in the 90s are popular nowadays. Pair it up with a turtleneck, a striped t-shirt, an off shoulder shirt or even a cold shoulder top and you are good to go!
Some other 90s trends that made a comeback are denim jackets, slip dresses, scrunchies, mom jeans, fanny packs, printed separates, and claw clips. As Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion changes but style endures.”
