BOARD GAME FABAGANZA!

The new year for the Spectrum Students’ Society board of 2020/2021 kicked off with a never before done, truly memorable, evening of board games, titled “Board Game Fabaganza!” as its very first commendable event. It commenced at 2.30pm on the 25th of September, 2020, at the SIST premises.

The gloomy yet beautiful day was indeed filled with excitement as the doors to the institute opened, in order to get the games rolling. The students and lecturers of Spectrum participated in an aura of unforgettable fun while competing against their peers so as to achieve a spectacular win. To usher in this event, many students willingly donated their game boards and allocated their time in making this event a well-organized, planned out gathering by designing board game signs, setting up tables and chairs and by sharing posters to family and friends who may want to join. In terms of the board games included, over 20 different games were present which could accommodate over 100 people. Some of the games included were, CHESS, SCRABBLE, LUDO, CAROM, JENGA, UNO, MONOPOLY, and FOOSBALL. According to the students who participated, it was in fact a carefree environment where all worries toward submitting closely due assignments and personal problematic circumstances were neglected for the time being as they surrounded themselves in the cheerful and healthy environment. As refreshments, students were also able to purchase snacks, which included manioc chips and soft drinks, allocated at the snack bar. Music was also played on a side note which indeed filled the vicinity with a boost of confidence for the competitors to succeed. It was truly an unforgettable evening and is definitely worth to commence once again, as mentioned by many of the students. Fabulously, the event closed on a successful note.

“Everyone forgot our problems and felt only happiness. It was well organized. Thank you so much for such a wonderful day.”

“It was super fun and we enjoyed it a lot!”

- Mithara, participant.

The thought of playing with board games in our busy day to day lives is not quite doable as compared to youthful days. Therefore, the idea of going down memory lane was indeed fulfilled on this day in support by close friends and colleagues. They say, one of the best memories are usually made when gathered around a table, when surrounded by the people you love. The dedication and perseverance seen by the students and lecturers of Spectrum were truly shown that day as they move toward the betterment of becoming one like family. One such way of portraying teamwork is by sharing many such memories in the form of playing board games. It frankly is ‘old but gold’.
