The carom tournament that took place at the SIST premises on the 22nd of February was another special event in the SIST calendar. I was one of the carom players who participated in the event and that event was very special to me for 2 reasons, it was the first time I had secured a win in a sport and it was the very first time that I organized something.
It was a hectic day for me and my colleagues of EBH_2021. It was the day we were having practicals with Mr. Nishi that morning. Mr. Nishi was kind enough to let me assist him with collecting some drainage water supposedly from the “Beira lake” that graciously flows by the left side wall and “Bolgoda lake” which stays stagnant just by the SIST entrance, for the practical. Off I went racing up the stairs to meet my absolutely gorgeous, beautiful, supportive humans from the sports society, who made that day a tremendous success and an unforgettable day in my life. The sorting of the players and fixtures and all the slow moving stage of the tournament which then gave way to the exciting bit, the action and the heat. I would never forget the excitement and the living in the moment I’ve experienced on that day, all the beautiful faces on that day were filled with excitement and often at the decisive points of the match the sounds went down to pin drop silence except broken by the disk striking the carom men on the board and then the crowd erupts in cheerful cries and laughter when somebody pots the men. The tension on the rooftop on that day was so great you could cut it! And everybody lived in the moment, eyes transfixed to the carom boards, rounds after rounds. It was a day of excitement and joy.
Then later on the occasion was graced by the presence and active participation of Jay sir and Gowri ma’am along with the SIST faculty. It was a day that reflected the unity of the SIST family. This amazing atmosphere was created through the support of all the members of SIST along with the sports committee and support from other avenue, especially the VCMM avenue by Dinu and team who immensely supports and is a part of all events of SSS capturing every laughter, smiles and excitement of that day (not to mention they sometimes manage to renew our whatsapp dp now and then).
The day ended with the awarding ceremony awarding the victors (Dave and Adshayan) their victors cup putting Griffith in the first place in the house points table followed by Hershey and Avery. The organization was done by the sports wing of the SSS headed by the president Adshayan Ganeshamoorthy and vice president Omar Ameer + team comprising of Director Mithara, Bhanuka, Hassan, Iesha, Gowsigan, Rifthy, Krishanthan.
